Councillors' Remuneration
Hexagon Research and Consulting’s research report Survey of Scottish Councillors Workload and Analysis of Councillors’ Weight of Responsibilities has been published alongside the Review of Remuneration Arrangements for Local Authority Councillors.
The Scottish Local Authorities Remuneration Committee (SLARC) commissioned Hexagon Research and Consulting to undertake a two linked studies:
• a Survey of Scottish Councillors’ Workload; and,
• an Analysis of Scottish Councillors’ Weight of Responsibilities.
The overall aim of Survey of Scottish Councillors’ Workload was to gather data on the current (and anticipated future) workload of Scottish councillors of varying levels of seniority in successfully discharging their particular responsibilities or duties of office.
The Analysis of Scottish Councillors’ Weight of Responsibilities described, assessed and compared the different weight of responsibility required of councillors of varying levels of seniority in successfully discharging their particular responsibilities or duties of office.
The Analysis included draft role descriptions and a competencies framework for councillors that were used by the SLARC as the basis for its recommendations about the level of remuneration for Scotland’s councillors.
